I went to Home Depot after work because that’s the store most convenient to me… plus, I get a 10% discount for being a veteran. I had done some looking at materials online, but while delivery would be free, this is one of those things I wanted to actually see (and feel) in person. Online shopping did save me some time in showing choices, and what aisle everything was in.
I ended up deciding on getting everything in copper, with the exception of the wall plates. Those were only available in iron. I chose copper because of price. The pipe and fittings are ¾” because I thought ½” looked too flimsy, though it probably would have been strong enough to hold a towel. I have enough piping for one 40” towel rack with some left over. Not sure what I’ll use it for. A washcloth rack, maybe?

When I started laying everything out for the pictures I discovered that I had accidentally bought two different elbow joints. They were both in the same bin so I assumed that they were the same exact kind. The ridges won’t fit into the flange. When it comes time for assembly, I’ll just cut some slots in the one side and squeeze them inward.
Now I just need to wait for some better weather for the painting. That’ll be Part Three.
