My Custom Heavy Duty Towel Rack (Part Three)

(Part Two here…)

Last Saturday turned out to be a good day for projects. I not only cut and painted the various parts for the towel rack, I also worked on refinishing the entertainment center, which turned out… Well, you’ll have to wait on that post. 😉

Cutting the pipe to size was a breeze, thanks to my recently acquired DeWalt multi-tool. I got it and a few other power tools at a local pawn shop for a fair price. Shoutout to Cash American Pawn on HWY 290 in Elgin Texas! I slapped in a cheap blade from WalMart, and went to town slicing and dicing. the only issue I had was a need to clamp down the pipe. Using the multi-tool was different than using a hacksaw… It vibrated really hard and really fast so the whole pipe shook. Fortunately, I have plenty of clamps, so I fastened it to my porch and things went well after that. I’m going to be on the lookout for a vise when I go out thrifting. Or maybe a trip to Harbor Freight… Of course, since I can’t measure worth a damn (and having lots of extra pipe) I cut it a couple of inches longer than needed. It’ll be easier to cut it again later than trying to weld it back together. 😀

Not much to tell after that. I spray painted the parts. let them dry, spray painted the areas I had missed. Sanded a little with 0000 steel wool and touched up. I decided to get creative and used a stencil (thanks Temu!) to liven up my bargain soap dispenser.

Part 4 will be the installation, and ruminations on lessons (hopefully) learned.
